Based out of Walla Walla, Rogue Lobster brings together a sound they call “Americana Bluegrass Crustacean.” The band incorporates traditional bluegrass, Americana, and folk into their music, with a strong focus on three-part harmonies and instrumental leads. A local favorite in the Walla Walla area, this will be the band’s first excursion to Baker City.
Playing tradition country, folk, and bluegrass songs, the “Fiddlers” fill the stage with musicians young and old to captivate the audience with a sound that harkens back to a time long before television, cell phones, and the Internet. A time when the family would gather around an old tube radio and listen to shows like “National Barn Dance” and “The Grand Ole Opry.”
Eclectic Americana performed by Marilyn Shollenberger and Lonnie “The Eclectic Cowboy” Shurtleff. Classic country, country swing, standards: it’s all here for you to enjoy. Lonnie is well known for his cowboy poetry as well so we may even have a few poems scattered throughout the performance,
ATTENTION: Schedule change
Bag of Hammers consists of 2 people, Luke McKern and Holly Sorensen, but their sound is that of a much larger band. Using multiple loop stations, Luke’s guitar, bass, and drum machine, and holly’s keyboard, vocals, and ukulele, they mix up some of the best music every played and heard in Eastern Oregon.
ATTENTION: Show cancelled!
Local musicians Chris Johnson (Johnny Star) and Nancy Ames, who helped raise funds for the Powder River Pavilion, are the foundation of Brushfire. They have been playing around the area for quite some time and share a wide range of music including traditional folk, 60’s & 70’s pop, and Americana. Where else will you have the possibility of hearing a song with ukulele and trombone?
ATTENTION: Venue changed to Lions’ Picnic Shelter
A PRMR fan favorite, Brady is an exceptionally talented pianist and guitarist whose musical stylings encompass a wide variety of eras and genres. You might hear anything from a 50’s ballad to modern pop. Originally from Wallowa, Brady often visits Eastern Oregon to share his music with us. We are happy he’s able to make it to Baker CIty again this summer. Always a show worth seeing.
Wayland, his magical tool box of instruments, and some local musician friends will share a large number of original tunes penned by Wayland himself. If you’ve ever been to one of the acoustic jam sessions, you already know Wayland’s deep voice and many of his songs. Wayland is the inventor of the musical instrument, the Clackamore, and others, which will likely be showcased in one or more tunes. He may pull out the didgeridoo for a song as well.

Matt Cooper, a long time professor of music at EOU in La Grande, has assembled a great group of players to share the wonders and beauty of jazz music on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Keyboardist Cooper brings with him Tim Greene on bass, Greg Johnson on saxophone, Jeff Sizer on trombone, and Andy Steele on drums. This may be one of the best shows of the 2024 season.
Union County favorites who are also quickly becoming regional favorites as well, Slapjack Casualty bring solid musicianship and vocal work to their original and cover songs steeped in traditional bluegrass, folk, and Americana. This is their second trip to the Summer Concert Series and if the first show was any indication, this will be a lot of fun.
Local musicians Donnie, Pat, Rik, and Craig played last year under the name of Donnie Counts & the Can’t Hardly Playboys. This incarnation revolves around the basic four of the group but could include other players joining them onstage. The quartet bring a large catalogue of music including country, rock & roll, and blues to the stage. The can, and most likely will, play most anything you can think of. Another of our great local bands.
Join us for a very special end of the season event as we present three of the many musicians who helped raise the initial funds for the pavilion.
Marvin Sundean will kick things off at 2 p.m. with a mix of gospel and classic rock era music.
Next, Nancy Ames will share her traditional folk-based stylings at 3 p.m.
Then we’ll close out the day with local favorite Frank Carlson from 4-6 p.m. Frank has a large catalogue of music to draw from and has the ability to read the crowd and play just the right songs at just the right time.
We would like to thank all of our business sponsors/donors, all of our wonderful musicians, and most of all, our audience members for making 2024 another successful year for the Summer Concert Series.
